Our past and future.
Mia Hand’s products and brand are conceived and developed by Prensilia, a Tuscan company specialising in the research, design and development of highly dexterous robotic hands for applications in the medical and industrial fields. In addition to this, Prensilia stands as a capable service provider in the robotics and automation sector.
WHO WE ARE.
Prensilia was founded in 2009 as a spinf-off of the Scuola Superiore Sant’Anna. Its birth was possible thanks to the ingenuity and willpower of a group of researchers from the ARTS Lab – Advanced Robotics Technology & Systems Laboratory – who sought to make their developed technologies usable for all national and international research laboratories.
For years, the Tuscan company has supplied highly dexterous anthropomorphic grippers to various research centres and universities, both for educational and pure research purposes.
Products developed by Prensilia have been included in several R&D projects across different fields, such as artificial intelligence, neuroscience, prosthetics, human-robot interaction and humanoid robotics.
Since 2016, Prensilia has increasingly taken the path of developing upper-limb prosthetic medical devices, aiming to significantly improve the life quality of people who have undergone amputation. The year 2016 was particularly significant for Prensilia, as it marked its adhesion to the European project DeTOP (Dexterous Transradial Osseointegrated Prosthesis), an ideal environment in which the first prototype of Mia Hand was developed.
Today, Mia Hand presents itself as the ideal solution to satisfy your functional, aesthetic and control simplicity needs. Mia Hand is therefore the first myoelectric upper limb prosthesis in the world whose external features are fully customizable. A meticulous design and careful research and prototyping made Mia Hand emerge as the winner of the Reddot Award 2019, receiving praise for design and functionality.
